Recommended Tools

You may be wondering why I’m recommending tools for something that doesn’t really require them. Just hear me out on this; I know EVs are much less maintenance than internal combustion engine cars, but they still require some tools to ensure a safe ride for you as the driver and keeps your EV in check.

All of these tools I recommend are tools I always have with me. I have used every single one of them in a pinch and I recommend you have them too.

The tools I recommend you always keep with you in your electric vehicle are:

This extension cord from Amazon.com. This is a device that’s use for both at home and away from home. Having this readily available will ensure you’re not stuck without being able to charge.

This Craftsman tool set from Amazon. Though electric vehicles don’t have as many components as internal combustion engine cars, some tools will still be required if you’d like to do a few fixes yourself.

This tow strap found on Amazon.com. There will be times when you’ll be stranded in a drained EV. Having a tow strap will greatly help in these times and ensure both your safety and the safety of your vehicle.

EV Extension Cord

Whether you charge your EV from a regular 110v outlet or you’ve installed an actual EV charger in your garage, this Duosida Level 1and 2 EV Charger found on Amazon.com is something I highly recommend keeping in your electric vehicle.

Using something like this is at home to charge your EV regularly is perfectly normal, however, having one handy while you’re out and about will ensure you’re able to charge no matter where you are. This extension cord comes with a 110V outlet cord as well as a 220V outlet cord. This utilizes the J1772 charger which a lot of EVs use, but if yours does not you can easily use an adaptor and it will still work great.

Craftsman Tool Set

You probably know that one of the biggest perks of owning an electric vehicle is that there is much less maintenance required. This, however, doesn’t mean there isn’t any maintenance. That’s why I recommend this Craftsman tool set from Amazon to always keep with you in your EV.

This tool set comes with sockets/ratchets and wrenches, the most common tool I use in all of my vehicles. You’d be surprised at how often you’ll need these tools, even for an EV. This set comes in both Metric and English unit sizes though most EVs us metric. I love Craftsman because they provide quality tools but aren’t as expensive as the higher up brands.

Tow Strap

Most EV owners will experience a time or two where they find themselves stranded because their battery doesn’t have enough charge. This can be scary and since it’s a different scenario compared to an internal combustion engine car, some EV owners may not know what to do.

Luckily there are a few options which include insurance companies coming to you and giving you a fast charge from a mobile charger. But sometimes you’ll need to move out of the way of other traffic, so having this Rhino Tow Strap from Amazon.com will help. This will require another person and their vehicle to help; they’ll need to use this to tow you and your EV into a safer place.
