Recommended Accessories

I absolutely love cars, and electric vehicles are no exception; the concept of them just fascinates me. As each year passes by, the technology within electric cars continues to improve and it’s quite impressive.

With that being said, electric cars aren’t immune to inconveniences. That’s why I’ve made a list of some very helpful items that will provide convenience and additional safety for you as an electric car owner. I can guarantee that having these items will save you money and time while also preventing future annoyances.

The top accessories I recommend for your electric car are:

This waterproof charging plug cover found on Amazon.com. Electric vehicles plugs are made to get wet, but it’s always a good idea to provide a cover when possible, especially if you aren’t able to park your EV in a garage while charging.

This dash cam from Amazon. Whether you own an internal combustion engine vehicle or an EV, having a dash cam is always a good idea. This records everything going on in front of you and will save videos of important events.

This GPS tracker from Monimoto. Some electric vehicles already come with GPS trackers in them, but if you own an EV that doesn’t have one or you would simply like to have double the coverage, I would recommend getting another GPS tracker to always know the location of your vehicle.

Waterproof Charging Plug Cover

The impact the elements have on cars are no exception for electric vehicles. Electric vehicle charging plugs were designed to not be harmed when it gets wet, however, over time water can start to affect it.

This is especially true if you have to frequently park your EV outside while it’s charging. This WOLFCAR EV Charger Plug Cover from Amazon is an excellent way to keep that water out. It has a magnetic ring big enough to fit completely around most EV charging ports. If your panel isn’t made of metal, there are suction cups that work well at keeping it in place.

These are waterproof and UV resistant. The drawstring on the other side makes it easy to get a tight grip around the charging cord, minimizing potential water getting in from that side.

Dash Cam

Having a dash cam is a great way to secure yourself and your EV. While the item itself won’t prevent harm, it will provide the information needed if an accident occurs and ensure the truth.

The Rove Dash Cam from Amazon.com has a lot of impressive features that I’ve loved having in my car. The most important one is that it has a G-sensor, meaning when it detects blunt force it will lock in the video before and up to a minute after it happened. It’s extremely easy to use and set up and you can control it through an app on your phone.

On top of that, it’s made to withstand extreme temperatures (-22 degrees up to 176 degrees Fahrenheit). This assures that if you have to park outside of a garage for a long period of time, your dash cam won’t be harmed.

GPS Tracker

Electric vehicles are a bit harder to steal compared to an internal combustion engine car. However, that doesn’t mean they’re immune to getting stolen and it will become more common as electric cars become more frequent on the roads. Some electric vehicles come with a tracker (such as Teslas), but if someone steals your EV and disconnects the battery, the tracker won’t be able to give a location. That’s why this GPS tracker from Monimoto is such a handy device to have.

This device was actually made primarily for motorcycles, but they can be used for any vehicle. It essentially comes with two parts: a key fob and a tracker. You place the tracker somewhere hidden in your electric vehicle and you place the key fob somewhere you know you’ll always have with you when you drive (but not your keychain). Such places may include a wallet, purse, jacket, etc.

The key fob and tracker are able to sense each other when they’re close. If the tracker senses motion in the car but does not sense the key fob nearby, it will send alerts via their app and also call you (which sets them apart from most GPS trackers). The app and/or support that calls you will be able to give you the exact coordinates of your EV. It does require a subscription of $49 a year which is much cheaper than most trackers.
